Young Translators from İzmir University of Economics Received Their Awards.
On April 16, 2024, in Ankara, the Directorate for EU Affairs hosted the Certificate Ceremony for the "Young Translators Competition," where 125 students from 41 universities competed in English, German, and French categories. The aim of the competition was to increase awareness about the EU integration process and the specialized translation work required. Students from Izmir Economics School continued their tradition of success, with Özgür Ceyhan, a 4th-year student in the English Translation and Interpretation Department, winning first place among 90 contestants in the English category. Berra Okudurlar received the second prize, and Zeynep Erman was recognized with an encouragement award. During the ceremony, Ceyhan, Okudurlar, and Erman received their certificates from Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director for EU Affairs Ambassador Mehmet Kemal BOZAY.
During his opening speech, Ambassador Mehmet Kemal BOZAY expressed their pride in the fact that 1,248 students had participated in this competition over the years. Students who won first place in different language categories expressed their gratitude, and Özgür Ceyhan said, "It's an honor for me to represent my university, which has always supported me throughout my education, in this prestigious competition." He also mentioned that the preparation process, done through teamwork, was quite enjoyable. The ceremony concluded with a group photo session followed by a reception. Prof. Dr. Neslihan Kansu Yetkiner, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at İzmir University of Economics, Prof. Dr. Nihal Yetkin Karakoç, Head of the English Translation and Interpretation Department, Dr. Öğr. Üyesi Ilgın Aktener, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, and Research Assistant Aslı Melike Soylu accompanied our students at the ceremony.
Ceyhan, the winner of first place in the English category, is set to visit EU institutions in Brussels along with the first-place winners in French and German. Okudurlar, who won second place, is expected to attend the "Basic Training Program of the European Union" at Ankara University's Center for European Communities Research and Application.
