Mind, Behavior and Brain Research Laboratory
The main purpose of the researches carried out in our laboratory is to discover the cognitive, behavioural and emotional processes of human being by using scientific behavioural and brain imaging methods for conducting studies on cognition, learning, attention, perception and memory. Our laboratory is used for both educational and research purposes, and it enables our academic staff and department students to conduct research.
Our laboratory consists of 4 experimental rooms equipped with sound-thermal insulating and image-voice recording systems. These systems enable researches on behavioural and mental process with the state-of the-art technological equipment.
Our undergraduate students are able to use the department laboratories in the courses, for which they have to design researches and projects. Therefore, they get the opportunity to experience in conducting a scientific research in a laboratory environment.
Mind, Behavior and Brain Research Laboratory is located on the Block A, -2 floor.
Experiment Units
- This section consists of 5 sound - thermal insulated cabins equipped with camera and sound system (I. Pavlov Unit, M. Sherif Unit, B. F. Skinner Unit, J. B. Watson Unit and S. Asch Unit) where experimental studies are carried out at the computer and data are collected.
Electroencephalogram (EEG) Laboratory
- This part of our laboratory examines the electrical activities that occur in the brain during the cognitive and sensory processes with the electroencephalogram (EEG). One of the most important areas of research of brain dynamics, is that our brains react to warnings and events in 500-1000 milliseconds. Dynamic functions that are spread all over the brain are electrical vibrations with different frequencies, that is, oscillations. The most important goal of our planned examinations is to define the functions of oscillations in the brain in sensorial and cognitive processes. To this end, oscillation analysis will be carried out in different frequency bands on perception, attention and memory in healthy youth, healthy elderly and neuropsychiatric patients. In the long term, our aim is to obtain data that can reveal the functional relationship of oscillations in Fundamental Sciences and clinical studies comparatively.
Psychometric / Psychotechnical Laboratory
- The Psychometric / Psychotechnical Laboratory functions as a control room to manage the camera and sound recording system of other laboratory rooms and includes the working areas of laboratory assistants.
Observation and Interview Room
- The observation and interview room is divided into two sections one of which is the main section, where the meeting table is located and the latter is one-way mirror lab section.
- In addition to holding meetings and lectures for educational purposes, the meeting room enables the conduct of social psychological studies, in which group dynamics can be investigated and subjects are tested in groups.
- In the one-way mirror lab section, one-on-one clinical interviews with educational practising purposes and observational experiments can be conducted. This room can be observed both by the camera and by the people sitting in the meeting room
Social Dynamics and Eye-tracking Laboratory
- Physiological measurements such as electromyogram, galvanic skin response, pulse and blood pressure can be taken with the physiological measurement equipment in the laboratory.
- An eye-tracking system for examining attention and perception processes is also included in this section.
- This section of the laboratory functions as a psychotechnical measurement room. This includes the Vienna Traffic Test System and the most suitable equipment required to measure various skills associated with the driving performance of motor vehicle users.
fNIRS Station
- In this section of our laboratory, there is a functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), which is used to record the neurophysiological activity in the forebrain and based on measuring the amount of oxygen in the hemoglobin molecule responsible for carrying oxygen to tissues.

Psychological Support, Application and Research Center
IUE Psychology Research and Application Center aims to offer the students receiving postgraduate education in clinical psychology to practice under supervision. The center also aims to provide undergraduate/graduate students and academicians in Psychology Department with research and training opportunity in the field of Clinical Psychology.
The center serves those in need of support according to their psychological problems. Psychological interviews with people who are considered suitable for follow-up, diagnosis and treatment are conducted by specialist psychologists, clinical psychology graduate students under the supervision of supervisors, and/or faculty members with clinical psychology expertise.
Thanks to this service, the people seeking psychological support are provided with counseling, the competence of clinical psychology graduate students is increasing and opportunities for conducting variety of research in related fields are being created.
