The World Mathematics and Pi Day Event

The “World Mathematics and Pi Day” event, traditionally organized annually by the Department of Mathematics at İzmir University of Economics, was celebrated with great enthusiasm on March 14, 2025. The opening speech of the event was delivered by Prof. Dr. İsmihan Bayramoğlu, a faculty member of the IUE Mathematics Department. In her speech, Bayramoğlu emphasized the significance of mathematics in the modern world and provided the audience with a broad perspective by discussing its applications across various disciplines.

As part of the event, Prof. Dr. Mine Çağlar from Koç University and Prof. Dr. Halil Oruç from Dokuz Eylül University participated as invited speakers. Prof. Dr. Mine Çağlar explored the historical development and mathematical foundation of Brownian motion, offering an in-depth discussion of its profound connections with the world of finance. Prof. Dr. Halil Oruç, on the other hand, delivered an engaging presentation on Fibonacci numbers, highlighting the mathematical relationships behind these numbers through patterns observed in nature.
