From Internship to Career: Our Student Ekin Yıldırım Continues at Gülnak Shipping with a Full-Time Position

Ekin Yıldırım, a student in the Department of Sociology at İzmir University of Economics, continues his journey at Gülnak Shipping, where he first started as an intern. This summer, he has taken on a full-time role, combining his academic background with hands-on professional experience.
Ekin Yıldırım, who is currently completing his undergraduate studies with only two courses remaining, has also pursued a double major in International Trade and Finance. Through coursework that blends sociological theory and field research, he has developed strong analytical and critical thinking skills. His studies in international trade have further enriched his perspective, particularly in areas such as global trade structures, logistics, and financial systems.
Over the past year, Yıldırım has been working at Gülnak Shipping, a company operating in the maritime industry. Initially joining the company as an intern, he now holds a full-time position during the summer, working in both the Operations and Personnel Management departments. His involvement in operational processes, firsthand observation of maritime trade dynamics, and active participation in HR practices closely align with his academic training in International Trade and Finance.
He plans to continue working part-time in the upcoming fall semester, just as he did in previous terms, while completing his remaining coursework. Yıldırım highlights the importance of opportunities such as double major and Erasmus programs in supporting his academic and personal growth, noting that these experiences have allowed him to build a multidimensional academic profile and gain exposure to diverse cultural and institutional contexts.
As İzmir University of Economics Sociology Department, we are proud to share our student’s success story and wish him continued achievements in both his academic and professional journey.
