ÖZGECAN ASLAN
Dear Students,
We are all deeply saddened by the brutal murder of Özgecan Aslan. I invite you all to the meeting that will be held on Wednesday, March 11 at 15.30 at the conference hall to honor the memory of Özgecan Aslan and talk about rage and violence against women, children, animals, disabled, weak, minority, in other words, against the other that is increasing every day.
Özgecan was one of us, we wanted to do something to have her name live on; our lab will be named after Özgecan. Her name will symbolize resistance to rage and violence, darkness and ignorance, intolerance and discrimination, and it will give us strength.
The organization is planned as an “open mike” rather than a ceremony or a conference. I thought that everyone has something to say about this issue. I believe that expressing thoughts, even a few words, is important in terms of raising awareness, and drawing attention to responses shared on social media.
We are not passive observers, we are psychologists, we are equipped with the knowledge and motivation to change-improve for a better world to live in, and we need to assume responsibility.
I hope to see the entire department, academicians and students, at the meeting.
